Foundations of Dental Sleep Medicine: A Primer for Providers and the Dental Team
Whether you’re a dentist who is looking to expand your clinical treatment skills or you would like to learn how to just screen and refer, both are great ways of helping your patient’s overall health. Statistics also show patients have even more trust in their dentist when their dentist offers a variety of specialty care.
This course is intended to help clinicians and their team members become aware of the importance of sleep and how they can screen and treat sleep apnea. This course will teach participants the correct patient workflows to be able to start the screening process for patients with the option to refer the patient to a telemedicine-based sleep physician who is licensed in all 50 states for efficient and cost-effective screening. Additionally, home sleep studies to diagnose sleep apnea will also be provided directly to the patient when ordered by the sleep physician. We know that obstructive sleep apnea is an 80% undiagnosed condition and when left untreated, increases the risk for heart attack and stroke and can result in 12-15 years of reduced longevity and even sudden death. This is a very treatable disease and dentists can be the first line of care because of their focus on the patient’s head and neck anatomy.
